1602 Slum Education Project: A Project for Improving Educational Status of Children in Slums of Vadodara, Gujarat
Vadodara, December 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) is implementing the Slum Education Project in the city of Vadodara funded by Manos Unidas, Spain. The objective of this project is to reach out to the children from marginalized and deprived communities of Vadodara city and assist them in learning and acquiring knowledge to improve their scholastic performance.
Regular classes were held every day for about 2-3 hours to assist children in learning and completing the school syllabus. This month an interactive session was organized to teach children about the type of houses in different geographies according to their climate like houses made of wood, brick and concrete houses, houses made of mud and thatch, tent house, Igloo house, houses made of stone etc. The children learnt about the relationship between the climate and habitat.
Staff meeting was held. The teachers participated in the meeting and presented their plan for the month. Review of the progress was taken by Mrs Jagruti Patil (Coordinator) and feedback was shared with the teachers.
Later in the month, the children celebrated the Christmas festival. About 700 children participated in the celebrations. Children wore Santa Claus Cap and drew sketches related to the theme of Christmas. Children sang Christmas Carols and parents also participated in this event.
