Pune, December 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized three health awareness sessions for adults residing in various slums of Pune. 73 ladies participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Business Services. The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was organized on 2nd December 2023 at Ambedkar nagar slum for 19 ladies.  Dr. Jyoti Shinde was the resource person. 

Second session was held on 21st December 2023 for 32 ladies in Subhash Nagar Slum. Dr. Heena Bagwan was the resource person. 

Third session was held on 29th December 2023 for 22 ladies in Tadiwala Road Slum. Dr. Saloni Naik was the resource person. 

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

• Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

• Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

• Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

• Do not smoke or chew tobacco

• Limit alcohol consumption

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

• Do not be overweight

• Lead an active life and exercise
