Pune, June 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized four health awareness sessions for adults residing in various slums of Pune. 78 people participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Business Services. 

The objective of the programme was to educate adults on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was held on 5th June 2023 at Indira Nagar slum for 23 women. Mr Mufi Baig and Mrs Yogini Thorat were the resource persons. 

Second session was held on 17th June 2023 for 17 women in Vidya nagar slum. Mrs Akshada Naik was the resource person. 

Third session was held on 23rd June 2023 at Sureksha Nagar slum for 16 women. Mrs Lina Gaikwad was the resource person. 

Fourth session was held on 24th June 2023 at Ambedkar Nagar slum for 22 women. Mrs. Akshada Naik was the resource person. 

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

• Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

• Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

• Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

• Do not smoke or chew tobacco

• Limit alcohol consumption

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

• Do not be overweight

• Lead an active life and exercise
