1648 AXA-DBDS Project: Health Awareness Session for Adults 

Pune, April 2024:  The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized four health awareness sessions for adults residing in various slums of Pune. 85 ladies participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Global Business Services. The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was organized on 12th April 2024 at Udyog Nagar  slum for 19 ladies.  Ms Akshada Naik was the resource person. 

Second session was held on 12th April 2024 for 20 ladies in Yerwada Gaothan Slum. Mrs. Deepti Tupe was the resource person. 

Third session was held on 13th April 2024 for 21 ladies in Anand Nagar Slum. Mrs. Akshada Naik and Ms Rajshree Deshkhire were the resource person. 

Fourth session was held on 27th April 2024 for 25 ladies in Tadiwala Road Slum. Mrs. Shabana Patel was the resource person. 

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

Do not smoke or chew tobacco

Limit alcohol consumption

Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

Do not be overweight

Lead an active life and exercise
