1699 AXA-DBDS Project: Health Awareness Session for Adults

Pune, August 2024:  The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized four health awareness sessions for adults residing in various slums of Pune. 95 ladies participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA Global Business Services. The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was organized on 5th August 2024 at Tipu Sultan Nagar slum for 19 ladies.   Sister Rupali Ukarde and Mrs. Sonam Kamble were the resource persons. 

Second session was organized on 13th August 2024 at Ajantha Nagar slum for 24 ladies. Mr. Subhash Angre and Mrs. Babita Bansode were the resource persons. 

Third session was organized on 21st August 2024 for 22 ladies in Dalvi Nagar Slum. Mrs. Yogini Thorat was the resource person. 

Fourth session was organized on 23rd August 2024 for 30 ladies in Shatri Nagar Slum. Mrs. Vanashri Bahisane was the resource person. 

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

Do not smoke or chew tobacco

Limit alcohol consumption

Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

Do not be overweight

Lead an active life and exercise
