1534 DBDS-AXA Project: Health Awareness Sessions on tobacco consumption and Cancer

Pune, July 2022: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Pune organized two awareness session on the topic of physical and mental health, Cancer and harmful effects of tobacco under the aegis of ‘Health Care and Sustainable Environment Project’ supported by AXA Business Services. 56 women participated in these awareness sessions

The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behavior. The details of sessions conducted is as follows:

First session was held on 16th July 2022 at Indira Nagar slum for 35 women. Dr Pratima Kale was the resource person. Second session was held on 29th July 2022 in Ajanta Nagar. Mrs.Rajshree Deshkhaire and Mrs. Vibhawari Kamble were the resource persons.

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource persons:

  • Personal Hygiene

  • Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

  • Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person:

  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco

  • Limit alcohol consumption

  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

  • Do not be overweight

  • Lead an active life and exercise

After the sessions toilet soap were distributed to participants.
