Pune, April 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized three health awareness sessions for ladies residing in various slums of Pune. 63 ladies participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Health care and Sustainable Environment Project’’ supported by AXA Business Services.

The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was held on 5th April 2023 at Saibaba Nagar slum for 21 women. Mrs. Akshada Naik and Mrs. Rajhree Deshkhire were the resource persons. Second session was held on 6th April 2023 for 19 women in Thite Wasti slum. Mr Nagsen Chavan was the resource person. Third session was held on 11th April 2023 at Ajantha Nagar slum for 23 women. Mrs. Akshada Naik and Mrs. Rajhree Deshkhire were the resource persons. 

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

• Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

• Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

• Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

• Do not smoke or chew tobacco

• Limit alcohol consumption

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

• Do not be overweight

• Lead an active life and exercise
