1569 AXA-DBDS Project: Health Awareness Session for Women

Pune, September 2022: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized two awareness sessions on ‘Personal hygiene, Tobacco and Cancer’ for women residing in various slums of Pune. 50 women participated in this awareness session which was held under the aegis of ‘Health care and Sustainable Environment Project’’ supported by AXA Business Services.

Two health awareness sessions were organized this month in the slums of Pune City and Chinchwad. 50 women participated in these awareness sessions. The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was held on 8th September 2022 at Ajanta Nagar slum for 23 women. Dr Prajakta Aswar was the resource person. Second session was held on 10th September 2022 in Thite Vasti. Mrs Mona More was the resource person.

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource persons:

  • Personal Hygiene

  • Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

  • Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person:

  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco

  • Limit alcohol consumption

  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

  • Do not be overweight

  • Lead an active life and exercise
