Pune, March 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized four health awareness sessions for ladies residing in various slums of Pune. 95 ladies participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Health care and Sustainable Environment Project’’ supported by AXA Business Services.

 The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was held on 2nd March 2023 at Khadi Machine slum for 25 women. Mrs Vibhawari Kamble was the resource person. Second session was held on 15th March 2023 for 20 women in Suraksha Nagar slum. Mr Nagsen Chavan was the resource person. Third session was held on 23rd March 2023 at Shelar Chawl slum for 14 women. Mrs. Lina Gaikwad was the resource person. Fourth session was held on 29th March 2023 at Dutta Nagar slum for 36 women. Mrs Rajshree Deshkhire was the resource person.

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

• Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, age related ailments

• Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

• Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

• Do not smoke or chew tobacco

• Limit alcohol consumption

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

• Do not be overweight

• Lead an active life and exercise
