Pune, January 2023: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized four health awareness sessions for women residing in various slums of Pune. 77 women participated in these awareness sessions held under the aegis of ‘Health care and Sustainable Environment Project’’ supported by AXA Business Services. The objective of the programme was to educate women on health, hygiene and health risk behaviour. The details of sessions conducted are as follows:

First session was held on 5th January 2023 at Laxmi Nagar slum for 14 women. Mr Nagsen Chavan was the resource person. Second session was held on 19th January 2023 for 25 women in Indira Nagar slum. Mrs Akshada Naik was the resource person. Third session was held on 21st January 2023 at Tadiwala Road slum for 17 women. Mr.Nagsen Chavan was the resource person. Fourth session was held on 24th January 2023 at Ambedkar Nagar slum for 21 women. Mrs. Vibhawari Kamble was the resource person.

In these sessions following topics were covered by the resource person:

• Personal Hygiene

• Oral Cancer; Causes, Symptoms and Treatment 

• Testing, screening and treatment of Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer

Following suggestions were given by the resource person: 

• Do not smoke or chew tobacco

• Limit alcohol consumption

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains

• Do not be overweight

• Lead an active life and exercise
