Pune, October 2025: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) organized six Legal Awareness Sessions in October 2025 under the aegis of Women Empowerment Project supported by AXA GBS. The details are as follows:
The sessions covered key legislations relevant to women and vulnerable groups:
• Labour Laws: Participants were introduced to provisions regulating employment conditions, wages, working hours, and workplace safety. Special focus was given to rights of women workers, including maternity benefits and protection against harassment.
• Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005: The legal framework for protection against physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse was explained. Steps to obtain protection orders and the role of Protection Officers were discussed.
• Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956: The session emphasized the prevention of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, highlighting rescue, rehabilitation, and penalties for offenders.
• Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (Section 498A): Participants learned about provisions to combat dowry demands and related harassment, legal remedies for victims, and punishments for those involved.
• Criminal Law Amendment Act, 2014: Reforms strengthening laws against sexual offenses were discussed, including enhanced penalties for crimes such as rape, stalking, and acid attacks, along with victim protection measures.
• Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012: The session explained protections for children from sexual abuse and exploitation, defining offenses, penalties, and child-friendly procedures for reporting and trial.
The resource person encouraged participants to share personal experiences and challenges, offering specific legal guidance and practical advice to address individual concerns.
