Pune, July 2026: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) is providing fashion designing training to 12 ladies from the slums of Chinchwad. Mrs Priya Purohit is the training instructor.  A new batch of 28 women enrolled in the Tailoring and Mehendi Training Programme at Ashraf Nagar, Kondhwa, Pune. The training, conducted under the Women Empowerment Project, aims to equip women with practical livelihood skills that can help them start self-employment ventures or supplement their family income. Mrs. Firdoz Shaikh serves as the instructor, guiding the participants through a structured curriculum comprising both theoretical sessions and extensive hands-on practice in tailoring and mehendi art.

The programme was inaugurated by Fr. Savio Silveira, who highlighted the importance of skill development in empowering women to become financially independent, strengthen their families, and contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities. He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity by learning with dedication and confidence.

During the month, Fr. George Miranda also visited the tailoring classes in Chinchwad and Pune. Interacting with the trainees, he motivated them to develop their skills with commitment, maintain regular attendance, and strive towards self-reliance through sustainable livelihood opportunities. His words of encouragement inspired the participants to complete the training successfully and utilize their newly acquired skills for a better future.
