Pune, August 2026: The The Don Bosco Development Society organized three financial literacy sessions in August 2026 for women and community members in three slum communities. These sessions were organized under the aegis of ‘Women Empowerment Project’ supported by AXA GBS. A total of 66 participants attended the sessions. The details are as follows:
The sessions aimed to improve participants’ financial awareness and their ability to make informed decisions regarding savings, investments, government savings schemes, and digital financial transactions.
The resource persons covered the following topics:
• Savings Bank (SB) Accounts and different savings options
• Recurring Deposits (RD) and Fixed Deposits (FD)
• Monthly Income Scheme (MIS)
• Senior Citizens’ Savings Scheme (SCSS)
• Public Provident Fund (PPF)
• National Savings Certificate (NSC)
• Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP)
• Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
• Risks associated with Ponzi schemes and fraudulent investment schemes
• Digital financial frauds and precautions to protect oneself from online scams
Special emphasis was given to safe and informed financial practices, including the importance of choosing regulated financial products, avoiding unrealistic investment promises, protecting personal banking information, and remaining alert to digital frauds.
The sessions were interactive and participatory, with participants actively asking questions about savings, investment options, government schemes, and digital financial safety. The resource persons responded to their queries and provided practical guidance to help participants manage their finances more safely and effectively.
As part of the financial literacy initiative, the Don Bosco Development Society facilitated the opening of seven Recurring Deposit (RD) accounts for community members in August 2026. The initiative helped participants convert their financial awareness into practical savings behaviour and encouraged them to develop a regular saving habit through a formal financial institution.
